Vibration animation for a violin

This page shows the measured eigenmodes of vibration for a violin made by Antonio Stradivari. For the sake of the animation, the amplitudes have been greatly exaggerated and the frequencies slowed down (slow-motion display).

The eigenmodes of vibration ("modes) which are animated here represent measurement results which were produced through experimental modal analysis. What we see here involves actual measurements ("transfer functions") on the real instrument and not a simulation. Producing the skeleton model involved measurement of 595 transfer functions.
