Press Release
Martin Schleske is considered one of the most important master violin makers of our time. International media outlets such as The Strad magazine in London, The New York Times, Bayerischer Rundfunk, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung have recognized him as a pioneering master of modern violin making. His work embodies the fusion of craftsmanship and art, spirituality and science. His research findings on musical acoustics have been incorporated into the collection of the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
As a trained physicist and master craftsman, Schleske has spent four decades fostering a dialogue between experimental sound research and the tradition of instrument making. His instruments are played by soloists and concertmasters who perform internationally—often as a tonal alternative to the great Italian masters of the past.
In addition to his work in the workshop, Schleske is regularly invited to give lectures at academic and cultural institutions. His public appearances include, among others, the commemorative lecture “150 Years of the Technical University of Munich,” the symposium “Musical Instrument Making in the 21st Century” at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, and the commemorative sermon on the occasion of Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki’s 60th birthday at Cologne Cathedral.
As a writer, Schleske resonated with many readers through his bestseller Der Klang – Vom unerhörten Sinn des Lebens (The Sound: On the Unheard Meaning of Life). The book is now in its 15th edition, has been translated into several languages, and received the “Book Award” from Christianity Today in the United States in the Culture & Arts category. He is currently working on his fifth book, Die Harmonie der Gegensätze.
Schleske finds a personal source of strength in his time spent with horses. The quiet presence of these creatures and his ongoing training in osteopathic bodywork with horses serve as a counterbalance to his work in the workshop—and as his own form of love and sound exploration.
Martin Schleske is happy to be available for interviews, profiles, TV features, or in-depth discussions.
